Free-Standing Electric Fencing – Wooden Poles
Economical free-standing electric fences built on pressure-treated eucalyptus poles. The practical choice for farms, ranches, rural homesteads and large plots where long runs make steel too expensive — installed, earthed and commissioned by our teams anywhere in Kenya.

How a Wooden Pole Electric Fence Works
Eucalyptus poles are pressure-treated with CCA or creosote preservative so the sapwood resists rot, fungi and termites. Treated poles last many times longer in the ground than untreated timber.
Large-diameter strainer poles go in at corners, gates and long straights, braced with stays to take the wire tension. Smaller line poles are set between them, typically buried 0.6–0.9 m deep depending on soil and fence height.
Wood is not a reliable insulator — especially when wet — so every live strand is carried on proper insulators nailed or screwed to the pole. This keeps the pulse in the wire and prevents leakage into the pole.
An IEC 60335-2-76 certified energizer, mains or solar, pulses the fence about once per second. A contact gives a sharp, non-lethal shock, and a cut or shorted wire triggers the energizer's alarm output.
System Capabilities
Treated Eucalyptus Poles
CCA- or creosote-treated poles that resist rot and termite attack, sourced in a range of diameters and lengths.
Braced Strainer Assemblies
Heavy strainer poles with stays or box braces at corners and gates to hold high-tensile wire tight.
Insulators on Every Strand
UV-stabilised nail-on or screw-in insulators so live wires never touch the timber.
Droppers & Spacers
Droppers between poles keep strand spacing even, so animals and people can't push through.
Mains or Solar Energizers
Energizers sized to the fence length and vegetation, with solar and battery options for off-grid farms.
Earthing & Lightning Protection
Bonded earth spikes and lightning diverters protect the energizer on long, exposed rural fence lines.
Benefits of Automation
- Lower cost per metre than steel — ideal for long perimeters.
- Treated timber gives a long service life in Kenyan soils.
- Natural look that blends into farms and rural settings.
- Poles are easy to source, cut and replace locally.
- Works with solar power for off-grid properties.
- Can be upgraded with extra strands or steel sections later.
